“I ended up getting a much higher grade than I was predicted at school. Thank you so much Mr Thomas!”Rubina Ashraf
As a qualified teacher with many years' experience both in the classroom and doing private tuition in Manchester, I have helped hundreds of pupils exceed their expectations in their Maths and Physics exam performance.
Through engaging with my pupils in one-to-one lessons I help them gain much greater confidence in their ability, understanding and interpretation of maths and physics, at many levels.
Helping a range of abilities, all lessons are tailored to the individual needs of the child, and my expert tuition will give your child a much better chance of obtaining good grades in their exams. In my lessons, there is no such thing as "I can't"!
If you are a parent of a pupil, or a pupil, struggling with school maths or physics, or just needing an extra boost before a module exam, call me on 0161 434 4126. I can help... Try one lesson and see the difference it can make.
Where do the lessons take place?
“Peter’s teaching was invaluable to my children’s educational progress. By throwing light on the problems and topics they did not understand, he gave them back their self-confidence in areas they’d given up on... He had a knack of making maths and physics clear, fun even!”Anne Schilizzi
I teach in a quiet, pleasant room at my home in West Didsbury.
Will I receive individual tuition or do you tutor small groups?
I rarely give tuition in small groups - much more commonly, I teach one-to-one.
Do you teach all abilities?
Yes, I am happy to teach students of all abilities. I feel that my style of teaching helps to bring out the very best in each individual and encourages them to develop in a way, and at a speed, that suits them.
Do you set homework?
Yes, nearly every lesson, I will give homework. Work completed at home is very important for reinforcement of good practice - embedding understanding; learning to work accurately and at greater speed.
How do I get feedback from you on work submitted? Is it at the next lesson or do you email before the next lesson?
I often mark and go over students’ work during their lessons. At other times, if it seems more appropriate, I mark the work between sessions, giving feedback at the following one. I think it is important and good practice to go over students’ work in person - so that any difficulties can be dealt with together and properly followed up.
Do you have access to and use past papers to prepare your students?
I have access to a large selection of past exam papers and often use them in lessons and give them to students to work on at home.
Do you do intensive tuition sessions leading up to exams?
I am very happy to give intensive tuition sessions if, and when, this is required for an individual student.

They both found that Peter understood their difficulties, explained things well and helped them develop their skills ending in improved exam results in all areas. We were delighted with the results." - Hilary Phillips
"Our daughter was having great difficulty with maths as she prepared for GCSE and it seemed clear that she wouldn't pass. We took her to see Peter, who worked with her with great care and sensitivity. She only had three sessions with him but they were enough to help her achieve the grade she needed, which had seemed quite impossible. We're hugely grateful!" - Grevel Lindop
"I learnt much more with Peter than I did in Maths at school. I understood things I hadn’t before." - Richard Humphreys
"Peter’s teaching was invaluable to my children’s educational progress. By throwing light on the problems and topics they did not understand, he gave them back their self-confidence in areas they’d given up on. They realised there were simply gaps in their knowledge or had missed understanding one of the steps which led on to another - rather than being stuck and feeling stupid. He had a knack of making Maths and Physics clear, fun even! He taught all four of my children Maths GCSE and they all achieved the very top grades. He also helped two of them at A level Maths, my niece and one daughter with Physics and my nephew had a couple of lessons at degree level Maths and they always returned from their lessons with clarification and confidence." - Anne Schilizzi
"Peter was a great teacher, he was really clear at explaining maths solutions and workings out. He never made me feel stupid and always explained things again and again until I had fully understood it." - Clare Schilizzi
"From my point of view, Richard was always happy with the lessons and felt he was improving in Maths and I’m certain Peter helped Richard achieve grade A at GCSE. Peter helped Richard with his understanding and focused on aspects of school lessons that Richard was finding difficult. I would highly recommend Peter to anyone." - Anne Humphreys

He is very knowledgeable and has a fantastic style of teaching; I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr. Thomas to anyone else for tutoring in Physics, Maths and Chemistry. Not only did he prepare me for my exams, but he also showed a personal interest in motivating and encouraging me in my learning and my University applications.
Mr. Thomas is extremely committed and provided me with all necessary past papers. It was a pleasure having him as my tutor and I miss being his student." - Faria Ahmed

"I was fortunate enough to have lessons with Peter on an on and off basis throughout high school and college. Peter was happy to help with everything from drilling in times tables in High School, to working with polynomials, complex numbers and figuring out Dijkstra's algorithm in College.
Looking back, Peter was happy to cover any topic I could ask for. He loved being asked questions, especially tricky ones and he had a relaxed but methodical approach that was really appreciated. I enjoyed his lessons and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone interested." - Jack Cousins
"I found Mr Thomas's classes so helpful. I am not brilliant at Maths and he seemed to really understand my difficulties and find good ways to explain so that I could understand and do it for myself. I ended up getting a much higher grade than I was predicted at school. Thank you so much Mr Thomas!" - Rubina Ashraf

"Peter’s lessons are always structured to my daughter’s abilities and his unfailing encouragement of her, and his enthusiasm for Maths means that she enjoys her lessons and always has a good experience of succeeding. She is willing to do the regular homework he sets because he is interested in giving helpful feedback. He has given her a thorough foundation in the subject, filling in gaps in her understanding, so that she has progressed from struggling with Maths to being on course for a good GCSE pass. Her confidence in her ability to work out Maths problems for herself has improved a great deal with his help." - Calla Thompson – daughter, Sammy in Year 11
